Their are many different types of hair extensions available, more and more people are chucking away their clip-ins and opting for a longer lasting method. But what's the average price you should be paying for good quality hair extensions fitted by a proffesional?

Hair extensions have slowly increased in prices due to the demand , the hair also goes through a lengthy colouring process. Their are also a few other factors which contribute to the costs of the hair extension like the type of hair (russian/indian) wether it is single or double drawn (thickness from root to tip) and the amount of hair per hair extension. Ofcourse it all depends how much your stylist is charging for the fitting fee aswell as removal and maintenance.

What is the average cost?

The average cost for a half head can be anywere from £100-£250 and £250-£700 for a full head. This all depends on the amount and length used.

The good thing about hair extensions is that most of them can be reused which makes them cost effective, good quality hair normally lasts around 6-12 months. It can seem expensive at the start but you would only be paying for removal & refits after this.

When it comes to choosing a hair extensions brand it can be tricky to find a high-quality product if your new to the hair world. There are many brands available all claiming to be the best, but which ones live up to their standards?

I have worked alongside many brands over the years of being in the hair industry, most of which live up to their standards but also a few that really don't get much of a thumbs up from me.

I have to say that Remi Cachet is by far my favorite brand, over the years they have really excelled themselves by constantly updating their product ranges. They have brought out many new products some of which (ultra-tips) have been a game-changer. The color range produced by Remi Cachet is so diverse allowing you to be versatile and creative. The customer service they deliver is also fantastic.

Another worldwide famous brand is Great Lengths, the hair they produce is of extremely high quality. The hair can be more towards the higher price range, which can put people off but this is due to their lengthy process the hair goes through for quality checks.

Always make sure to do your research before choosing which brand you go for. It's a lengthy and at times expensive process so you want to make sure you are getting the most out of what you are paying for.

Firstly, it all depends on the method of hair extensions used. Secondly, the aftercare is an extremely important factor to ensure the longevity of the hair.

There are a lot of choices available to cater for all different hair types;

Pre-bonded/Fusion (keratin/glue) is more of an old school method, these would generally last around 3-4 months. With the option to have them removed and re-tipped with new bonds, however, this is a more lengthy process than the newer types available.

Stick/Mini/Ultra/Nano tips have taken the hair extension world by storm, because of their easy application, adjustability, and ability to refit straight after removal. This type of hair extension requires no heat during application making the process quick and easy. These generally last around 12 weeks before removal and refit.

Tape hair extensions are one of the newer methods available, these are fantastic for clients with finer hair. They generally last around 6-8 weeks before removal and refit.

Weave hair extensions are advantageous for girls with super thick hair, the technique allows larger areas of hair to be covered with 1-3 wefts at a time. The weave is sewn onto the micro rings by a thin piece of thread. They generally last around 12 weeks before removal and refit.
